Pokémon Scarlet/Violet received the highest pre-orders in franchise history

Pokémon is the highest-grossing media franchise of all time, thanks in part to the series’ games – each of which sells millions of copies. Somehow, Pokémon keeps getting bigger, with the latest title (Scarlet/Violet) said to have had the highest number of pre-orders in the history of the series.

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet released over the weekend to a mixed reception, with some fans praising the game’s new and fresh structure, while others took note of the title's woeful performance and a litany of bugs.

Unaffected by these issues is the game’s pre-orders, which according to The Pokémon Company’s chief operating officer Takahito Utsunomiya, were the highest in the series’ 25+ year history.

As reported by Japanese site Oricon, Utsunomiya also revealed that since the release of Pokémon Green/Red back in 1996, total sales for Pokémon games have surpassed 440 million – which is especially impressive when considering the fact that Pokémon has always been exclusive to Nintendo platforms.

Of course, with how vocal fans seem to be with regards to Pokémon Scarlet/Violet’s performance issues, it will be interesting to see whether the game’s sales suffer in the short to medium term.

KitGuru Games: DLSS 5 misses the point

It would be hard to argue that NVIDIA’s DLSS technologies haven’t been a net positive to the PC space, with the machine-learning based upscaler successfully translating lower resolution inputs into a final image which is perceivably sharper while hogging fewer resources. Though somewhat more contentious, the next evolution of DLSS came in the form of Frame Generation, using ML in order to generate additional frames for high-refresh rate gaming. Both techniques can have their issues, but generally speaking they’ve allowed for more people to experience higher-end titles at increased frame rates. DLSS 5, however, takes a sharp pivot, with a very different end goal in mind than the performance-boosting versions that came before.
