Rockstar co-founder unveils new media company ‘Absurd Ventures’

After shipping Red Dead Redemption 2, Dan Houser took an extended break from the games industry and ultimately left Rockstar Games in 2020, a little over two decades after co-founding the company. Now, Dan Houser is returning with a new company known as Absurd Ventures.

Houser's new company will focus on creating new IP across all platforms and formats, so it is a media company rather than a game-focused studio. With that in mind, Houser will be focusing on “building narrative worlds, creating characters and writing stories for a diverse variety of genres without regard to medium”.

Some of Houser's projects could end up turning into film or TV shows, others might become comics and there may be a game or two somewhere along the way but for now, it doesn't sound like there are any hard promises.

There is a new website set up for Absurd Ventures but it doesn't contain much content. There is a short YouTube video with random clips smashed together, a piece of art claiming that robots are depressed and a registration page to sign up for a mailing list.

KitGuru Says: We don't know where this is all going yet, but it will be interesting to see what Houser does next.
