Kotick says it was a mistake for Activision to skip Switch

Activision CEO, Bobby Kotick, spoke on the witness stand this week during the ongoing hearing between Microsoft and the FTC. During the questioning, he was asked about his opinion on Nintendo's position in the market and he promptly admitted that Activision made a mistake skipping Switch this generation.

Kotick described his scepticism over the Switch after seeing an early prototype. At the time, he thought Nintendo was trying to accomplish too much and that the portable hybrid concept wouldn't be “wildly successful”. Ultimately, Kotick believes that was “a bad decision” now that the Switch has gone on to become one of the most successful consoles of all time.

Kotick also seemed to indicate that he is already considering supporting Nintendo's next console in a greater capacity and may have already seen a next-gen prototype.

There have been rumours about Nintendo working on a next-gen console for years at this point. At the moment, most people expect Nintendo to continue to offer a hybrid-style system, rather than going back to a TV-only system.

KitGuru Says: While some doubt Call of Duty could run on the Switch I don't see any reason why it couldn't. The Call of Duty engine is incredibly scalable. If the Switch can run the Crysis trilogy, The Witcher 3, DOOM and Wolfenstein II, then I'm fairly confident a version of Call of Duty would be possible – it would likely require a decently-sized SD card though.
