The PS5 is due to get an official price cut soon

While stock shortages have hampered the sales potential of the PS5 somewhat, the console has still sold a lot of units since launching in 2020 and this year, supply has greatly improved. We may see stocks sell out again later this year though, as Sony is reportedly planning a price cut for the console.

Billbil-Kun, a leaker who regularly reveals the latest free games for PS+ subscribers ahead of official announcement, has now claimed that Sony is planning an official PS5 price cut in the US, UK and several European countries. The price reduction would equate to around £75, bringing the price down to around £400. Combine the price cut with the upcoming release of Spider-Man 2 and you are bound to see a boost in sales.

The price cut will be available at retailers like Amazon, as well as physical retail outlets like Game. Sony will also offer the reduced price for orders through PlayStation Direct. The price cut will be temporary, but we should see sales come back periodically. For instance, we're likely to see some decent PS5 Black Friday and Christmas deals this year, whereas in previous years, there wasn't enough supply to fuel promotional campaigns like that.

Exactly when this price cut will come into effect is still unknown, but it should be within the next few weeks. We may also see some reduced bundle deals during this time period too, so be on the lookout for deals that include extra games and controllers.
