Critical Role is planning to expand into gaming

Critical Role, the beloved Dungeons & Dragons actual play series, might be venturing into uncharted territory with its own dedicated video game. Cast members have hinted at an “active pursuit” of such a project, but unfortunately, specifics haven't been shared.

In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Laura Bailey and Travis Willingham, two of Critical Role's founding members, revealed that creating a video game has been in the works for years. Willingham added that they've had the necessary conversations over the past five years to figure out how to do it intelligently. It's a different operation from what they do on Beacon, Twitch, YouTube, and even the animated series, and it requires its own understanding.

While details remain scarce, Willingham hinted that Critical Role might have something more concrete to reveal this month or sometime next year, coinciding with the series' tenth anniversary.

The prospect of a Critical Role video game is particularly exciting given the cast's extensive experience in the gaming industry. Bailey is a renowned voice actress known for her roles as Abby in The Last of Us and Mary Jane Watson in the recent Spider-Man games. Willingham has also lent his voice to iconic characters like Knuckles in the Sonic series, Wilson Fisk in Spider-Man, and Raiden in Mortal Kombat. Matthew Mercer, another prominent member of Critical Role, boasts an equally impressive voice-acting resume, including Leon Kennedy in the Resident Evil series, Vincent Valentine in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, and the beloved ranger Minsc in Baldur's Gate 3.
