Until Dawn film gets new trailer ahead of April premiere

Just under one year ago, Sony officially announced that they were working on a film adaptation of the cult hit PS4 horror classic Until Dawn. With the project set to premiere in just a few months, the company has now released a brand new trailer.

Directed by David F. Sandberg (of Lights Out and Annabelle: Creation fame), the Until Dawn film appears to only be loosely taking the game as inspiration, adapting the choice-based narrative of the PS4/5 title and turning it into a Groundhog Day styled horror flick – the premise of which reads as follows:

“One year after her sister Melanie mysteriously disappeared, Clover and her friends head into the remote valley where she vanished in search of answers. Exploring an abandoned visitor center, they find themselves stalked by a masked killer and horrifically murdered one by one…only to wake up and find themselves back at the beginning of the same evening. Trapped in the valley, they're forced to relive the nightmare again and again – only each time the killer threat is different, each more terrifying than the last. Hope dwindling, the group soon realizes they have a limited number of deaths left, and the only way to escape is to survive until dawn.”

As mentioned, with Until Dawn being a choice-based game in which any and all characters could die due to players making the wrong decision, it perhaps makes sense to turn this mechanic into somewhat of a gimmick for the film – minus any actual interactivity from the viewing audience.

All that being said, it will be interesting to see how the Until Dawn film is received when it comes to cinemas on the 25th of April; and given the shaky nature of all previously-released horror-based film adaptations it could very well be the best one in the genre. We won’t have to wait long to find out.
