Diablo 4 Season 8 has been delayed

Since launch, Blizzard has been hard at work on improving Diablo 4 but the game is facing increased competition in 2025 thanks to Path of Exile 2. As a result, Blizzard is taking some extra time with its next season.

Diablo 4: Season 8 has been delayed by several weeks. Blizzard's Diablo franchise head, Rod Fergusson confirmed this over the weekend, saying: “In the spirit of serving the game, not the plan, Season 8 will take a couple of weeks longer to bake than we initially anticipated. The team is hard at work on some great updates coming in the next season, so stay tuned. Looking forward to seeing an old ‘friend'”.

Blizzard has revealed few details about the plan for Season 8 of Diablo 4, so we aren't sure who the ‘old friend' Fergusson mentions is, but it will hopefully lead to a new endgame boss fight, something Diablo 4 needs more of to improve variety.

Blizzard also recently announced that there will not be a new expansion for Diablo 4 this year, instead opting for an 18-24 month development window that will see the next expansion launch in 2026.
