AMD is reportedly preparing Ryzen 9750X and 9650X CPUs

Just one week after Intel unveiled its aggressive Core Ultra 200S Plus desktop refresh, a report has emerged indicating that AMD is preparing a pair of new Zen 5 chips – the Ryzen 7 9750X and Ryzen 5 9650X.

According to chi11eddog (via VideoCardz), these are not X3D parts, as they maintain the standard 32MB of on-die L3 cache. Still, they represent a shift in AMD's mid-range strategy. By nearly doubling the base TDP from 65W to 120W, AMD is pretty much factory-overclocking its Granite Ridge silicon to compete with Intel's 200S Plus series.

The Ryzen 7 9750X is supposedly an 8-core, 16-thread processor, but it pushes the envelope with a base frequency of 4.2GHz and a maximum boost of 5.6GHz. This is a substantial jump over the original Ryzen 7 9700X, which some have criticised for its conservative 65W power envelope. Similarly, the Ryzen 5 9650X reportedly offers 6 cores and 12 threads with a 4.3GHz base and 5.5GHz boost.

These new variants have not yet been officially announced, so all information should be treated as rumour.
