Quantic Dream cancels live service game ‘Spellcasters Chronicles’

After a spree of playtests and an early access launch, Quantic Dream has cancelled development of its first ‘live service' multiplayer game, Spellcasters Chronicles. The game failed to grab a large enough audience during its first few months in early access.

In an announcement today, Quantic Dream confirmed that it is ending development on Spellcasters Chronicles, saying: “Today, Quantic Dream is announcing the discontinuation of the development of Spellcaster Chronicles.”

While Quantic Dream maintains that the game was a “bold, original multiplayer experience”, the studio acknowledges that it was unable to compete in “today's particularly challenging market environment”.

Spellcasters Chronicles will remain online until the 19th of June, at which point the servers will go offline. During its time, Spellcasters Chronicles peaked at just under 900 concurrent players. Those who did pay money into the game will be eligible for refunds.

Quantic Dream states that this cancellation will not impact the ongoing development of Star Wars Eclipse, its next single-player game.

KitGuru Says: Quantic Dream has a fan base, but clearly Spellcasters Chronicles wasn't the type of game those fans wanted to see from the studio.
