Activision is working on a new open world RPG for Xbox

After acquiring Activision a few years ago, Microsoft formed a new studio under the Activision wing known as Elsewhere Entertainment. We didn't know what this team was working on for a long time, but that finally changed this week with new job listings pointing towards an RPG.

While Activision used to be a very varied publisher, with studios working on games across many different genres, in more recent years, the publisher has primarily utilised its studios to feed the Call of Duty machine. Now following the Microsoft acquisition, Activision's new Elsewhere Entertainment studio will break off from that trend and create its own original game.

As spotted by u/cat_statue on Reddit, two job listings have popped up at Elsewhere Entertainment, hinting at a multiplayer RPG being made. One job listing calls for a multiplayer design director focused on PvE content and RPG systems, while other job listings call for level designers and quest designers with experience working on AAA open world games and open world RPGs.

This project is also specifically listed as a new IP, so it won't be tied to any previous Activision works, or any dormant or active IP within the Xbox roster.

KitGuru Says: It sounds a little like Activision wants its own Destiny-like game, years on from splitting up with Bungie. Now that the Destiny IP is essentially dead, there is a golden opportunity for another studio to come in and fill that gap in the market with something new.
