Following on from the success of the Silent Hill 2 remake, Blooper Team is now focusing its efforts on another legendary horror franchise. Blooper Team is gearing up to launch SAW: Genesis, with alpha testing set to begin this week, followed by a showcase of the game at Gamescom in August.
Blooper Team has confirmed that the Closed Alpha playtest for the game begins tomorrow. Selected players will get to play the game early, but the rest of us won't have to wait long to see more of it in action, as the game will be showcased at Gamescom next month.
SAW: Genesis is a new asymmetrical multiplayer game, although it plays out a little differently compared to Dead by Daylight. Rather than having four survivor characters, you get three, and rather than trying to escape an open map by fixing generators, survivors will be trying to get through a series of mazes and traps alive. If you've watched a SAW movie before, you should know what to expect from the set-up here.
The game, published by Blooper Team and developed by Broken Mirror Games and Anshar Studios in collaboration with Lionsgate, should be available to all later this year, or in the first half of 2027. As you would expect, feedback gathered during the Closed Alpha test will be used to tune balance, technical performance and core mechanics.
KitGuru Says: There have been many games like this in recent years but so far, Dead by Daylight has remained on top. Hopefully SAW: Genesis can do enough to move the genre forward.
