Ever since the overwhelming success of Rainbow Six Siege, we have seen very little in the way of new releases within the world of Rainbow Six (aside from the ill-fated R6: Extraction). Finally branching out and making greater use of the IP, Ubisoft have officially announced Rainbow Six: Tactics – a turn-based tactics game from the team behind Mario + Rabbids.
Making the announcement during Gamescom Opening Night Live, Rainbow Six: Tactics is a brand new entry in the popular Tom Clancy series. As can be gleaned from the name itself, this new offering from Ubisoft Paris takes the well-regarded formula seen with the likes of their Mario + Rabbids games and applies it to the hardcore tactical nature of Rainbow Six.
Based on the trailer released, R6: Tactics looks to have rather high production values, featuring full-blown cutscenes, cinematic moments during gameplay and overall appealing visuals.
Of course, the most important aspect will be its gameplay. In this regard, Ubisoft have confirmed that R6: Tactics will have you taking control over squads of 4, based on the many different operators seen in the likes of Siege. Each operator will of course have their own unique abilities, gear and gameplay opportunities.
With a variety of objective types; over 50 missions to complete and an upgradeable HQ to explore, Rainbow Six Tactics looks set to be an excellent addition to what is a relatively niche genre when it officially arrives some time in 2027.
