Machinarium is finally getting a sequel 17 years after the original game

Amanita Design has announced Machinarium 2, a sequel to its 2009 point-and-click puzzle adventure, after 17 years. While the title doesn't yet have an official release date, store pages are live on Steam and GOG for wishlisting.

Picking up immediately after the original game's ending, Machinarium 2's plot follows Josef and Berta after they crash-land in a hidden valley. Players must help the pair navigate two robot communities facing power shortages, one based in the Elektrona monastery and another in the city of Oilton. Unlike the first entry, players can swap between Josef and Berta at will to solve puzzles.

Amanita CEO Jakub Dvorský said the decision to return to the series was intuitive, noting he felt the robot world was ready to return. Composer Tomáš Dvořák, also known as Floex, returns to create the soundtrack. Dvořák said his goal for the sequel's score is a more mature, melodic sound through greater structural simplicity.

Amanita's existing catalogue is currently discounted across storefronts until October 15th. The studio has not revealed a launch window for Machinarium 2.
