Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave launched on Friday and reviews have been overwhelmingly positive, marking a strong return to the style and structure that made Three Houses such a hit.
Over on Metacritic, the game currently holds an 89 overall score based on around 70 critic reviews. The reception is similarly strong on OpenCritic, where it also averages an 89, with 97% of critics recommending the game.
Unlike Fire Emblem: Engage, which was more of a classic, combat-focused Fire Emblem game, Fortune’s Weave is a proper follow‑up to Three Houses, bringing back the social‑sim elements that made Three Houses so popular. However, this time around, players aren’t locked into a single route from the start. Instead, you can freely jump between four main character paths, allowing you to shift focus if a particular storyline or cast doesn’t immediately click. It’s a more flexible approach that encourages experimentation and keeps the narrative feeling fresh.
Visually, Fortune’s Weave is a notable step up from both Engage and Three Houses, with higher overall production values, a trend we’ve seen across Nintendo’s first‑party Switch 2 exclusives so far.
KitGuru says: I haven't had the chance to put many hours into Fortune's Weave just yet but based on the reviews so far, it appears to be a hugely successful follow-up to the new formula established in Three Houses.
