Rumour points to new 8P/8E Raptor Lake refresh extending the LGA1700 platform

Intel may be preparing to move on from the Core i5‑14600K with a refreshed Raptor Lake CPU featuring an eight P‑core and eight E‑core configuration. According to a new rumour, the updated chip would continue the LGA1700 platform while offering a modest bump in core count over the current 14600K.

The rumour comes from leaker Jaykihn (via VideoCardz), who previously claimed that Intel has been working on a refreshed Raptor Lake lineup. Rather than introducing a new architecture, the update appears to be a continuation of Intel’s existing design, potentially arriving alongside new LGA1700 motherboard models in early 2027.

One notable detail from the rumour is that the refreshed CPU may retain DDR4 memory support. This would give buyers a more affordable upgrade path at a time when DDR5 pricing remains higher. The shift to an 8P/8E configuration could also make the chip more appealing for gaming and general workloads, though no performance expectations have been outlined in the leak.

The leaker also suggested that Intel’s existing 14th Gen CPUs will remain available after the refresh arrives, with the updated model simply slotting into the lineup rather than replacing it.
