Arc Raiders has had a bit of a tumultuous journey so far. Launching last year to waves of praise and millions of copies sold, Embark Studios have struggled somewhat to keep fans engaged across its seasons. That said, the team announced back in May that they would be overhauling the game’s live service strategy, with the ‘Frozen Trail’ being the first evidence of this new development pipeline. Set to go live early next month, the team at Embark have officially detailed the upcoming update.
Taking to their blog to detail the Frozen Trail update, Embark Studios offered fans a look at everything set to arrive with the upcoming patch. Officially launching on the 8th of October, players can look forward to great deal of new additions across the board, including but not limited to:
- New Map: Pendola Pass
- New ‘Frigate’ patrol vessel to board and explore
- Three new Arc enemies (Bully; Skulker and Hydra)
- Customisable outpost (will be expanded upon in future updates)
- New ‘amplified’ weapon upgrades (adding extra properties to each gun)
- Two new guns (‘Stiletto’ Battle Rifle and ‘Bantam’ Revolver)
- Two new gadgets (Grappling Hook and Tether Launcher)
- Camera / photo mode
- Rewards Pass progression system
- And more…
While a majority of the new additions are highly welcome (including the grappling hook and outpost), the inclusion of what is essentially a battle pass may be contentious for some – especially as they are going for the typical ‘free’ and ‘premium’ tracks. That said, a similar system already existed in the form of their Raider Decks, and so this replacement seems more like a side-grade than anything else.
Either way, it will be interesting to see what players think of the Frozen Trail update when it goes live on the 8th of October.
