Insider details how Bungie will bring back all of its ‘vaulted’ Destiny 2 content

The announcement earlier this Summer that Destiny 2 would officially cease development came as a shock to many, especially as the team at Bungie had already previously promised that a suite of upcoming updates were on their way. Thanks to the unyielding outcry from fans of the franchise over the past few months however, Sony / Bungie reversed-course on their decision somewhat, announcing that they would at the very least be bringing back all of Destiny 2’s previously-vaulted content. While an explanation on how this will work exactly was not shared at the time, one insider has now confirmed a number of preliminary details.

As reported by known Destiny ‘insider’ Paul Tassi (via Forbes), Bungie’s Destiny 2 unvaulting plans come with both positive and negative news. On the welcome side of things, Tassi claims that all of the content set to be unvaulted will be offered for free for everyone – regardless of whether you purchased the expansions back in the day or not.

That said, not everything will be coming back, with Destiny 2’s Seasonal content in particular remaining lost to time. While somewhat unfortunate given that many of these Seasons included plenty of story content – as with many live-service games – each Season was designed from the off as a limited-time experience, and so this does not come as too much of a surprise.

While the unvaulting marks a major victory in its own right, expectations should be kept in check somewhat, with Tassi claiming that there are no plans to fully revive Destiny 2. Instead, any updates outside of said unvaulting will be purely limited to fixing game-breaking bugs.

Alongside these ‘confirmed’ facts, the insider also shared a list of things which remained unknown, including what this means for Strikes, Crucible maps, and Raid rewards.
