Microsoft pushes back on GTA 6 cloud streaming claims

A new report claims Microsoft has secured streaming rights for Grand Theft Auto VI, potentially allowing the game to be playable through Xbox Cloud Gaming at launch.

According to The Verge, the deal would let Xbox stream GTA VI through its cloud service, though the report does not clarify how long the arrangement would last. Rockstar has not announced a PC version of GTA VI, and cloud streaming deals typically allow Xbox to market access to PC players without consoles. However, the report notes that this agreement does not appear to include PC streaming and is not exclusive.

Shortly after the story began circulating, Xbox pushed back on parts of the reporting. Xbox CSO Matthew Ball said the excitement around GTA VI had led to “misreporting”, adding that while Xbox is preparing for the game’s November 19th launch, it “will not be streaming exclusively or to PC”.

Grand Theft Auto VI is set to launch on November 19th for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, with Rockstar once again opting for a staggered release strategy. As with previous entries, a PC version is expected, but it may not arrive for another year or two after the console launch. GTA V arrived on consoles in 2013 and did not reach PC until 2015, and Red Dead Redemption 2 followed a similar pattern.

KitGuru Says: GTA VI news always spreads quickly, so it’s good to see Xbox clarify the situation early. We’ll likely hear more about cloud support closer to launch.
