Respawn is exploring fixes for hitboxes in Apex Legends

Apex Legends has managed to reinvent the battle royale genre with the addition of respawning, but it still falls into the same pitfalls as most first-person shooters. Different Legends within the game have been given drastically different hitboxes, meaning that players using those characters will be at a distinct disadvantage.

Hitboxes are the invisible markers that surround a character, registering the real-time collisions from bullets to explosions or impacts from the environment. The best kinds of hitboxes are confined to the shape of the character model, giving an accurate representation of what can be targeted and what can’t.

YouTuber SookieSpy discovered that there is a disparity between the hitboxes in Apex Legends, particularly between the characters Bloodhound and the Chappie-lookalike, Pathfinder. While Bloodhound’s hitbox hugs the character tightly, even allowing for shots to pass through the fringe of his helmet without detecting, Pathfinder’s hitbox is a little more obscure.

The content creator describes Pathfinder’s hitbox as a “big diamond shape” that sadly doesn’t allow bullets to pass between his legs or in between his arms. Shots are even registered when the reticle is a noticeable distance away from the enemy character.

Fortunately, the issue has been addressed by community manager Jayfresh_Respawn, who states that the company is “definitely aware of it” and has been discussing solutions over the weekend. “I can’t say anything more for now but we hear you guys.”

It is currently unknown when a fix for hitboxes will arrive.

KitGuru Says: In the meantime, Pathfinder players might want to branch out and find their feet with a new Legend. Are you a Pathfinder main? How do you feel about the difference in hitboxes?
