Google activate 3.7 million Android devices over Christmas

Google have reported very strong sales over the Christmas period and a company executive spoke out, claiming 3.7 million Android activations over December 24th and 25th alone.

Andy Rubin, senior vice president of mobile at Google tweeted yesterday that 3.7 million devices were activated over their network in a 48 hour period.

This comes just after a statement he made, saying that 700,000 devices are being activated every day. This figure was shattered over Christmas, with more than twice as many devices activated.

Flurry Analytics, a company who analyse mobile device trends released their own figures of Android and iOS devices over the Christmas holidays. Peter Ferago said “On Christmas Day, activations jumped to more than 6.8 million, a 353% increase over the baseline. Compared with Christmas Day 2010, the previous single-day record, with 2.8 million device activations, Christmas 2011 grew by more than 140%.”

Kitguru says: Google+, the social networking service is also proving a success with customers, gaining more than 62 million members to December 27th, with a quarter joining in December alone.
