HP and Dell preparing Windows RT tablet for Oct launch

Hewlett Packard and Dell are preparing to release Windows RT based tablet PC's for the October Windows 8 launch by Microsoft. Dell are using Qualcomm chips in their designs and Hewlett Packard have opted for Texas Instruments hardware.

We spoke to an industry insider in the channel in Taipei last night and he confirmed that the supply of components are already on the move to the relevant factories.

Other companies are joining the Windows 8 tablet launch, including Asus and Toshiba.

Compal Electronics are manufacturing the Dell RT tablet PC.

Dell are aiming for a quick launch at the end of October, although they will have to compete with Microsoft who will already have their Surface tablet on the market on Windows 8 launch day. Many companies are airing their dissatisfaction with Microsoft and their release of the Surface tablet, which will reduce their chances of a sale.

Kitguru says: No shortage of Windows 8 based tablets for Christmas. Will any of them end up on the best seller list? Microsoft have the best chance, but their track record is poor in the mobile space.
