ProMOS selling fab, to become fabless

ProMOS Technologies have announced their plans to sell its 12 inch wafer plant and other facilities through an open bidding scheme by the end of the year. They want to become a fabless memory-IC company.

The starting bid for ownership is NT$19.5billion ($666.9 million US). The company have said that the auction of their 12 inch plant and production facilities/equipment will end by the start of December, with a sale to be finalised by the end of December.

Kitguru says: ProMOS are planning to only hold onto a small number of their staff after their transformation into a fabless organisation. They may lose 1,300 staff after the restructuring.
