The 8-core Ryzen 7 5800X3D released last year is currently the only Ryzen 5000 series chip with 3D V-cache. However, a new report suggests that might change soon, as there are indications that a new 6-core Ryzen 5 5600X3D CPU might be in the works.

As per the image shared by chi11edd0g, this chip would offer six cores and twelve threads, with a slightly smaller L2 cache of 1MB compared to the 5800X3D (which has 3MB). However, both processors would share the same L3 cache size, featuring 3D V-Cache technology, at 96MB. The picture also suggests this CPU would come with lower clock speeds than those of the 5800X3D, setting the base clock at 3.3 GHz and the boost clock at 4.4 GHz. These clock speeds are 100 MHz lower than those of the 5800X3D.

Considering that the current retail price of the 8-core Ryzen 7 5800X3D is $289, the cost of the 6-core variant is likely to be lower. This new CPU would expand the options available for gamers on the well-established AM4 platform, potentially offering an excellent choice for gamers who are on a budget and looking for a mid-range gaming CPU.

However, the introduction of this new 6-core chip with 3D V-Cache may reduce interest in the still-new AM5 platform. That could see AMD adjust the pricing of some of its existing Ryzen 5000 and 7000 series chips to make each of them equally compelling.
