AMD to launch new EPYC processors for AM5

AMD is reportedly set to expand its EPYC CPU line-up with a new variation, the EPYC 4004. This new family of data-centre processors is expected to join an expanded selection of EPYC Zen 4 CPUs spanning five segments, with up to 128 cores.

A report from Hoang Anh Phu (via VideoCardz), claims the upcoming EPYC 4004 series will also have X3D variants. While it is still unclear if these chips will use Zen 4 or Zen 4c cores (or both), it is known that they will support the AM5 socket, which means the packaging will be similar to current consumer and commercial SKUs.

EPYC 4004 will join the rest of the current EPYC line-up, which includes the EPYC 97×4 with up to 128 Zen 4c cores, the EPYC 94×4/95×4/96×4 CPUs with up to 96 Zen 4 cores, the EPYC 9xx4F with up to 48 Zen 4 cores, the EPYC 91×4/92×4/93×4 with up to 32 Zen 4 cores, and the EPYC 8xx4 with up to 64 Zen 4c cores. The new EPYC 4004 series is rumoured to support up to 16 Zen 4 cores.

Although the rumoured CPUs are based on the AM5 socket, it remains unclear whether existing AM5 motherboards will support them or whether a new chipset is required.
