Intel 13th Gen Core mobile flagship CPU to be the 24-core i9-13980HX

Up to now, rumours have pointed to the Core i9-13900HX as the flagship Raptor Lake mobile chip, but a new report suggests otherwise. On top of the Core i9-13900HX, Intel is reportedly preparing a Core i9-13980HX, capable of boosting 200MHz higher than the other i9 chip.

According to Wccftech, the Core i9-13980HX packs 8x P-cores and 16x E-cores for a total of 32x threads. In addition, it features 36MB of L3 cache and a 5.6GHz boost clock speed, meaning it will be the fastest Raptor Lake mobile chip once it has been released. TDP should remain at 55W, like the previous top Intel mobile HX CPUs.

Compared to the 12th Gen Core flagship HX chip, the Core i9-13980HX comes with noticeable improvements. Those include a 600MHz increase in the boost clock frequency and an additional 8x E-cores (and 8x threads). That will likely result in a significant boost in single-core performance, but the increase in multi-core performance should be even greater.

Intel may introduce the Core i9-13980HX during its keynote at CES 2023, where it should also reveal other Raptor Lake-based mobile processors.
