Intel Meteor Lake-S support introduced in recent Linux Kernel update

A recent patch for the Linux kernel has introduced support for Meteor Lake-S in its pin controller. Currently, it is rumoured that Intel's upcoming desktop processors will be refreshed Raptor Lake chips, but the codename Meteor Lake-S suggests we may see desktop Meteor Lake processors after all.

The addition of the Meteor Lake-S patch to the Linux 6.5 kernel was discovered by Phoronix. It has previously been claimed that Meteor Lake will be a mobile-only architecture, with no desktop products planned, so this update has caused some confusion.

It is possible that certain variants of Meteor Lake could be integrated into the desktop platform at a later stage. For example, the 15th Gen Core series could feature both Meteor Lake and Arrow Lake chips.

As there is ongoing activity with the drivers, it is important not to jump to conclusions and assume that Meteor Lake-S is cancelled. The situation suggests that there are developments happening behind the scenes, but no official announcements have been made just yet.
