Exclusive Future of Storage interview with Drobo CEO and CTO

How will the world change as motherboard vendors move from 1Gb Ethernet ports to 2.5Gb or even 5Gb as standard? Can the major hard drive manufacturers stay ahead of the SSD curve simply by launching 20TB units for the 3.5″ form factor? Will Apple's imminent launch of a Thunderbolt 3 device shake up the market? These and many other topics came up during KitGuru's exclusive interview with Drobo's CEO Mihir Shah and CTO Rod Harrison. Fascinating stuff.

Now in its 11th year of business, Drobo originated in San Jose, California and prides itself on simplicity. We recently reviewed the Drobo 5N and it proved itself to be a capable unit – especially with the flexibility offered through the company's BeyondRAID technology, which allows you to bunch a variety of drives together into a single storage solution. Both Rod and Mihir were very open and expansive with their responses and we'd certainly encourage you to watch it through – as there are plenty of interesting insights and revelations.

KitGuru says: The next few years will see a fundamental evolution in storage technology – as the transfer speeds between drives, systems and even wireless networks all shoot up. While the rate of increase in central processor power seems to have slowed, storage is set to change in many ways and, as far as we are concerned, the faster the better. Check back soon to enter a competition that we will be running with Drobo for a brand new yet-to-be-released storage device.
