New WD_Black SN8100 SSD boasts speeds of up to 14,900MB/s

The latest WD_Black SSD has arrived. The new WD_Black SN8100 NVMe PCIe 5.0 SSD utilises cutting-edge technology to deliver speeds up to 14,900MB/s, making it one of the fastest current-gen SSDs on the market.

The WD_Black SN8100 utilises advanced Sandisk BiCS TLC 3D CBA NAND technology to achieve top tier performance in the consumer SSD segment. The specs include sequential read speeds of up to 14,900MB/s, write speeds up to 14,000MB/s and random read performance of up to 2.3M IOPS. With up to 8TB capacity, this SSD is also perfect for storing high-quality 4K content and AI applications.

Speaking on the new drive, Eric Spanneut, vice president of devices for Sandisk, said: “Whether it’s for high-level gaming, professional content creation or AI applications, high-performance users now have a PCIe Gen 5.0 storage solution that matches speed with power efficiency to help them build the ultimate gaming rig or best-in-class workstation, enabling them to play and create with next-level performance and reliability”.

The new SSD is rated for up to 2,400 Terabytes Written (TBW) and will be available worldwide starting at £149.99 for the 1TB, moving up to £226.99 for the 2TB and £415.99 for the 4TB model. The 8TB version will be released later in the year and does not yet have a price tag. If you want a version of the SSD with a heatsink, you'll have to spend a little extra, with the 1TB version costing £166.99, the 2TB costing £244.99 and the 4TB costing £432.99.
