Baldur’s Gate 3 finally joins Xbox Play Anywhere program

Late last year, we reported that Microsoft’s Xbox Play Anywhere program was set to receive a major addition in the form of Larain Studios’ GOTY-winning Baldur’s Gate 3 – with Microsoft themselves seemingly accidentally making the announcement early. Ultimately, nothing seemed to come from the leak, with BG3 remaining locked to whatever system you purchased it on. Finally however, almost a year on from said leak, Baldur’s Gate 3 has now been added to Xbox Play Anywhere.

Xbox Play Anywhere is a long-running program which has existed for over a decade where-in players who own a game on Xbox (or Microsoft’s PC store) will be given access to the other platform for free.

The launch of the ROG Xbox Ally last year made this program in particular far more vital, and so it comes as a pleasant surprise that Baldur’s Gate 3 is finally joining the service.

As discovered by ResetEra user ‘clippy’, in going to the official store page for Baldur’s Gate 3, it can now be seen that the title officially supports Xbox Play Anywhere. While some are hoping that this means Baldur’s Gate 3 could be gearing up to be added to Xbox Game Pass, Larian Studios previously claimed that their games won’t be joining any subscription services.

Regardless, BG3 is currently on sale for the next week on Xbox, setting you back £40.59 instead of the standard £57.99 – not bad considering you’ll now get two versions of the game.
