Epic Games’ cancelled MOBA Paragon is being revived by another studio

First released back in 2016, Paragon was a 3rd-person MOBA developed by Epic Games which was eventually shut down following the overwhelming success of Fortnite. Nearly half a decade later, Paragon is coming back in an official capacity thanks to the efforts of a South Korean studio.

Paragon: The Overprime is a “free team-based TPS Action MOBA. Choose one of the many powerful heroes with unique skills and work with your teammates to conquer the Prime battlefield” – much like the original Paragon.

Interestingly, Paragon: The Overprime started its life as simply Overprime, with the team at Netmarble F&C explaining that “We have received official permission from Epic Games to use [PARAGON] as part of our new name. Therefore, we have decided to give the original [PARAGON] new life with [OVERPRIME] as [Paragon: The Overprime].”

Part of the reason Netmarble F&C is able to make this change is due to the fact that following the closure of Paragon back in 2018, Epic Games released the game’s assets to the public – totalling $17 million in value.

In the years since, multiple games have made use of these assets, including Fault: Elder Orb as well as Omeda Studios’ ‘Predecessor.’ That being said, it is highly interesting to see that the OG Paragon is being brought back. Of course, being from a different studio and initially intended to be another title, the game will have its differences, but it is interesting and exciting nonetheless to see Paragon coming back.
