Epic Games have for years been slowly but surely upgrading their PC Storefront with new functionality, quality of life improvements and more. Of course, being far later to the market than its contemporaries, the platform is still missing a great number of relatively basic features seen with more mature platforms. That said, if their timelines are to be believed, the Epic Games Store is set to receive a massive overhaul within the next 12 months.
As part of Epic Games’ recent State of Unreal presentation, the platform holder took some time to discuss their Games Store and what’s ‘in store’ for it in the short-to-medium term.
As captured by one Reddit user, the presentation included multiple slides going over all of their planned improvements for the next 12 months. The full list of expected features can be found HERE, but some of the most notable include:
- Universal controller support
- Epic Games Launcher V2
- Notifications overhaul
- Storefront rearchitecture and redesign
- Player profiles and avatars
- User-written reviews
- More personalisation
- Patch notes for 3rd-party games
- 5X faster load times for the Epic Games Launcher
Epic did go into further details on some of these points, most notably their planned redesign, which is set to take on a much more colourful appearance – especially with the new Player Profile page which includes a list of your games; top titles; achievements; player ‘level’ and more.
All that being said, Epic’s Game Store upgrades have been quite slow to roll out in the past, and so don’t expect all of these improvements to make it within a year’s time.
