Phasmophobia update makes the game scarier with overhauled graphics

Phasmophobia hit it big back in 2020 when the game was released in Early Access, launching to near immediate success. In the years since, the team at Kinetic Games have continued to work diligently on the game, improving it across the board. This latest update however is perhaps one of the biggest yet, making Phasmophobia even scarier and more immersive.

Available right now, Phasmophobia’s v0.8.0.0 update is one of the game’s biggest yet, bringing with it hundreds of fixes and changes, and dozens of new additions. Alongside the currently-live Holiday event, this latest update sees the introduction of a new rendering pipeline “spreading some of the load to GPU usage, increasing CPU performance, and allowing us to access new features!.”

Just some of the new features available includes:

  • Fog has returned (will now only be where it makes sense and has received a visual overhaul)
  • Sunrise weather has been added
  • Weather effects have been completely recreated from the ground up (Rain and snow have received large performance increases and improved visuals)
  • New graphics options have been added
    • Sky light – For enabling sun or moonlight in each location
    • Screen Space Ambient Occlusion
    • Fog quality
    • FidelityFX 1.0
    • Anti-Aliasing options – You can now choose between FXAA, SMAA, and MSAA (VR players can only choose MSAA)
  • All post-processing effects have been adjusted and improved

This is just a tiny selection of all the changes brought about by this latest update. There are dozens of gameplay tweaks, reward changes, enemy alterations and improved graphics across the board – both on a gameplay and artistic front.

All in all, this is a huge update for Phasmophobia and does more than enough to warrant a hop back into the game if you have not played it in a while. If you never played Phasmophobia, then now is also the best time to do so.
