Overclockers UK Titan Envy V2 System Review

The Overclockers UK Titan Envy V2 System is one of the finest we have reviewed this year. There are perhaps three systems we have reviewed in 2013 which exhibit no discernible weaknesses in regards to quality of component selection and overall build quality. This is one of them.

First impressions are positive, thanks to the adoption of the fantastic Corsair 350D chassis. The windowed panel highlights the exquisite build and the intense green LED lighting is strong enough to remain visible in daylight. Overclockers UK have also adopted high grade green LED fans which helps improve the appearance further.

It is worth pointing out that this would light up a room in the evening, so it may prove difficult to sleep if you leave your system on overnight, in a bedroom for instance.

Overclockers UK have clearly dedicated time working through a checklist of possible components for this build. The i5 4670k is the latest unlocked straight four core processor from Intel and OCUK have pushed it to a stable 4.5ghz, supported by the Corsair H80i liquid cooler. Current generation Haswell processors are hot running, but the Corsair unit holds it in the mid 70's under extended load.

We noticed that OCUK set up a custom cooling profile in the Corsair Link software, which delivers a balance of cooling performance versus noise. Bonus points for the attention to detail – especially as the default Corsair ‘performance' profile can get a little loud at times.

The Nvidia GTX770 is a fantastic solution to include in this particular build. This discrete card is more than able to power through the latest Direct X 11 titles at 1920×1080 and even 2560×1600, verified by our testing today. Additionally, the Gigabyte G1 Killer motherboard was rock solid during testing and never failed a post, or crashed using the OCUK overclocked BIOS settings.

Cable routing is excellent, and we noticed that OCUK not only hid as many cables as possible from sight, but they didn't just bunch them all in one location at the rear of the motherboard tray. The other side panel can be removed and replaced without any effort which is useful if you ever want to add another hard drive, for example.

The build standards are in the same league as PCSPECIALIST, the current market leader in our opinion.

While we can quote synthetic results till we are blue in the face, it is important that we discuss the ‘real world' responsiveness of the system, a point which can be often overlooked. OCUK have included a large mechanical drive to handle basic storage duties, supplemented by a Toshiba Solid State Drive.

Read performance of this unit is well over 500 MB/s and write performance is between 450 MB/s and 500 MB/s when dealing with compressible data. This SSD helps to ensure the system boots up in around 20 seconds and there is never any waiting around for programs to load.

Pricing of the Titan Fury V2 is competitive, as we would expect from OCUK. Pricing starts at £1,355.99 inc vat and there are several options for Solid State Drive and mechanical ‘storage' drive. OCUK support the system with a full 24 month warranty, which will give peace of mind. You can specify your own over here.

Pros:

  • very balanced performance.
  • Gigabyte G1 Killer board handles OC without a hitch.
  • An ‘A' list of component selection.
  • build quality is as good as we have seen.
  • GTX770 can handle 2560×1600 gaming.
  • OCUK have set up a custom cooling profile in Corsair LINK software.
  • green LED lighting and window looks great.
  • 24 month warranty.

Cons:

  • Green LED lighting is strong, late night
