A surge in leaks have all but confirmed that Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 is being remastered and is due to launch this year. Just like its predecessor, the remaster seems to be following an unconventional release, with Activision supposedly dropping the multiplayer component.
Amazon did the deed first, leaking a €19.99 (approx. $25) Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 Remastered listing last week, with a release date pinned for 30th April 2018. Twitter users then got Best Buy to weigh in on situation, with the company replying “At this time we are unsure of when pre-orders for the new Modern Warfare 2 Remastered will begin.”

Sources from multiple publications such as CharlieIntel and Eurogamer have gone on record to suggest that these leaks are, in fact, true and that unexpectedly, the title will ship without its famed multiplayer mode.
The original Modern Warfare Remastered also followed an unconventional release, being exclusively bundled in with 2016’s Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare for around seven months. The standalone release still cost a hefty $39.99 price tag, making the drop to $25 a lot more reasonable despite the supposed lack of multiplayer mode.

There’s a possibility that the multiplayer mode will release alongside Black Ops 4 in October, or that the sources are wrong and it will ship with the standalone Remaster. At the very least, Modern Warfare 2 is famed for its single-player campaign, with its No Russian level making headlines for controversially covering an airport mass shooting. It is unknown if this will be carried over to the Remaster.
KitGuru Says: Personally, I would like the developers of Call of Duty to hit the drawing board and simply use a remaster to bridge the gap that would be left for the year. The end result would perhaps echo Assassin’s Creed Origins in terms of remixing things up. Would you be interested in purchasing Modern Warfare 2 Remastered without multiplayer?
