Bioshock 4 delayed, creative director and studio head removed

In recent years, we have consistently heard rumours about a new BioShock game. Last year, 2K Games officially confirmed that BioShock 4 was in development, which had fans eagerly anticipating a full reveal of the game. Unfortunately, it seems that right after that official announcement, the game fell back into development hell.

According to Bloomberg's Jason Schreier, this year, the new BioShock game underwent another reboot. The game was recently shown to senior executives, and they were not happy with what was shown, leading to another shake-up of the BioShock team behind-the-scenes. Specifically, the game's narrative was a main point of contention and as a result, the script for the game is being reworked.

Following the internal review of the game, 2K Games also let go of the Cloud Chamber studio head, Kelley Gilmore, and the game's creative director, Hogarth de la Plante, has been moved from the development team over to the publishing side of the 2K business. Cloud Chamber may also undergo layoffs, as studio leaders told staff in a recent meeting that the company needs to become “more agile and efficient”, a phrase that typically precedes job cuts.

In an official response to the story, 2K Games offered Bloomberg a statement, saying “right now, we have a good game, but we are committed to delivering a great one”.
