Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy tops UK charts, beats Horizon: Zero Dawn launch sales

It looks like Sony has managed to tap into the nostalgia gold mine as over the weekend, the Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy for PS4 topped charts. In-fact, the game didn't just outsell other games, it also had the biggest launch of any platform exclusive this year, making it a bigger week-one success than even Horizon: Zero Dawn.

The Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy is a collection of the first three Crash Bandicoot games, all remade from the ground up to breathe new life into the series and bring it up to 2017's graphical standards. The remaster/remake was handled by a company known as Vicarious Visions and while the game is unfortunately locked to 30 frames per second, it does look very good.

The N.Sane trilogy managed to debut at number one in the gaming charts, a feat that each of the games could not achieve on their own when originally released. Here is the full top 10 for last week's UK game sales:

  • Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy.
  • Micro Machines World Series.
  • Grand Theft Auto V.
  • Forza Horizon 3.
  • FIFA 17.
  • Overwatch.
  • Elite Dangerous.
  • Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.
  • Dirt 4.
  • Rocket League.

Now it is important to note that this was also a quiet week for new game releases, so it's not like Crash had much competition. Still, sales were high, with the N.Sane trilogy becoming the second biggest launch of the year overall, with Ghost Recon Wildlands retaining the top spot so far. Finally, while this was the biggest single-platform launch of the year so far, it may not stay PS4 exclusive forever. Right now, there are rumours floating around suggesting that the N.Sane Trilogy may also land on Xbox before the end of the year.

KitGuru Says: I didn't own a PS1 or a PS2 back in the day, so I mostly got my Crash Bandicoot fix while visiting friends growing up. Since I never got to experience all of the games in full, I did pick up the N.Sane Trilogy over the weekend and so far, I'm having a good time with it. Did any of you pick up Crash Bandicoot last week? Did you play the originals back in the day?
