Cyberpunk 2077 will be getting a multiplayer mode after launch

Over the years, we have known that CD Projekt Red has been experimenting with the idea of multiplayer in Cyberpunk 2077. The studio has never confirmed official plans to implement this as the team has been focused on the game's huge single-player campaign. However, as we enter the final months of development, CDPR has officially announced multiplayer for the game.

Until now, CD Projekt Red has only been viewing multiplayer as an R&D side project while the main part of Cyberpunk 2077 is built. The single-player portion of the game will still be launching in April 2020 without multiplayer, but CDPR has begun recruiting new multiplayer specialists in order to add this new mode after launch.

In order to keep the record straight, CD Projekt Red has also stated that its roadmap includes launching Cyberpunk 2077 as a single-player RPG in April, which will then be followed by free DLCs, new single-player content and after all of that, multiplayer will be coming.

We don't know exactly how multiplayer will work in Cyberpunk 2077 but CD Projekt Red could take inspiration from GTA Online, which has been hugely successful for Rockstar.

KitGuru Says: For now, I'm just happy that the single-player is coming early next year. Multiplayer could be interesting though and should extend the longevity of the game. What would you all like to see in a multiplayer mode for Cyberpunk 2077?
