Microsoft will appeal CMA’s block on Activision Blizzard deal

It has been a couple of weeks since the CMA first announced plans to block Microsoft's acquisition of Activision Blizzard. Since then, both Microsoft and Activision have made it clear that they plan to appeal, a process that should begin this week.

According to a report from The Telegraph, Microsoft has hired the same lawyer Apple has previously used to fight regulators on a number of appeals. The same report claims that Microsoft will be filing its appeal “in a matter of days”, meaning we should get another update this week.

The appeals process can be a lengthy one and Microsoft will have to undergo its continued fight for the deal in the UK, while also continuing to work with the FTC in the US and the European Commission to get the deal approved.

The EU is set to announce its decision on the deal in May. Later in the year, we'll get updates on where the case stands in the US and the UK.

KitGuru Says: While many of us had hoped this situation would be over by now, it looks like we're going to be hearing about this all the way through to the end of the year.
