Mortal Kombat 12 reveal tipped for this week

While many of us assumed we'd see Injustice 3 after Mortal Kombat 11, rumours in recent months have pointed to Mortal Kombat 12 instead. Now, one prominent fighting game tournament competitor has hinted that we'll see a Mortal Kombat 12 announcement as early as this week.

SonicFox is well-known in the fighting game community, having won six EVO tournaments in five different categories. At one point in time, they were the highest-paid fighting game competitor in the world. Currently, he is signed with the Evil Geniuses esports organisation.

In a recent tweet, SonicFox claimed that an MK12 announcement could be coming this week. Jeff Grubb, a prominent games reporter, chimed in as well saying “I think they're going to space”, which could indicate a change in setting for the next game in the franchise.

Warner Bros' CEO quietly revealed the existence of Mortal Kombat 12 in an earnings call earlier this year, but NetherRealm has yet to officially show anything. We'll be keeping our eyes peeled for an official update on this over the next few days.

KitGuru Says: It has been almost four years since MK11 first released, so it is about time for a new entry in the series. Aside from a new Mortal Kombat, we are also due to see new TEKKEN and Street Fighter games in 2023, making it a pretty major year for fans of the genre.
