Netflix’s Assassin’s Creed series begins filming, will be set in Rome

Towards the end of last year, leaks revealed that Ubisoft and Netflix were finally moving forward with their Assassin's Creed TV series, with plans to set the show in Ancient Rome, a long-requested time period from fans of the games. Now, Ubisoft and Netflix have made it official and announced the main cast.

Each of the Assassin's Creed games have targeted a different period of history. We've seen Ancient Egypt, 1800s London, Civil War-era America and many more historical periods explored. For the new Netflix series, we will be exploring Ancient Rome, in the year 64 AD.

This time period is when the Great Fire of Rome took place and Emperor Nero experienced political pushback from rivals. Netflix describes the Assassin's Creed series as a ‘high-octane thriller centred on a secret war between two shadowy factions”, so the league of Assassins and the Templars will be making a much-needed appearance and will be shown as having significant impact on historical events.

The main cast for the series includes:

  • Toby Wallace
  • Lola Petticrew
  • Laura Marcus
  • Tanzyn Crawford
  • Zachary Hart
  • Nabhaan Rizwan
  • Claes Bang
  • Noomi Rapace
  • Ramzy Bedia
  • Sean Harris
  • Corrado Invernizzi
  • Sandra Guldberg Kamp
  • Youseff Kerkour
  • Mirren Mack

There is not yet a release date for the Assassin's Creed series, but everything is now place and filming has begun. If all goes to plan, the series should be ready to go by 2027.
