Rockstar avoids mentioning GTA Online in new GTA 6 pre‑order details

Rockstar has begun taking pre-orders for Grand Theft Auto 6, but the studio is being unusually quiet about the future of GTA Online. While GTA V became one of the best-selling games of all time thanks in part to GTA Online’s explosive success, Rockstar is currently positioning GTA 6 very differently.

As spotted by Eurogamer, Rockstar’s pre-order materials describe GTA 6 as a “single-player experience launching on November 19th”, with no mention of GTA Online or any multiplayer component. This careful wording has raised questions about whether the next iteration of GTA Online will be ready for launch, or if it will even be included with purchases of the main game.

This would mark a shift from GTA V, where GTA Online was included with every purchase of the game, even though the online mode itself launched several months after the single‑player campaign. With GTA 6, Rockstar may be preparing to treat the multiplayer component as its own product from day one, though the studio has not made any official announcements in that regard.

For now, Rockstar is only talking about the single-player portion of GTA 6. It remains unclear when the company will begin discussing the future of GTA Online. What we do know is that Rockstar is looking to bridge the gap between the GTA Online experience on consoles and PC, allowing more user‑generated content and RP servers on console platforms. Previously, popular modes like FiveM’s GTA Online RP were PC‑exclusive due to the use of modded files but are expected to be an official integration for the next version of GTA Online.

KitGuru Says: Rockstar’s silence on GTA Online is interesting, especially given how central it was to GTA V’s long-term success. It seems increasingly likely that the multiplayer component won’t be ready for launch, but we’ll have to wait for Rockstar to confirm its plans.
