Square Enix now ‘nailing down release date’ for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth

Final Fantasy 16 is coming up in just a few weeks but many fans are eagerly awaiting the sequel to Final Fantasy VII Remake. Final Fantasy VII Rebirth was announced in 2022 with a short teaser trailer and it sounds like there may be release date news on the way.

With Final Fantasy 16 coming this year, with plans to release on PC in 2024, it is unlikely that Final Fantasy VII Rebirth arrives anytime in 2023. However, in the latest development update, the development team confirmed two things – large explorable areas in the world outside of Midgar and more importantly, that the team is currently ‘nailing down the release date'.

Final Fantasy VII Remake sets up the first portion of this story, taking place entirely in Midgar, ending right before Cloud and the party break out to explore the rest of the planet. This is a small chunk of the original game, as the remake isn't a 1:1 remake of Final Fantasy VII, but rather an alternate version of the story with plenty of changes. As the expected trilogy continues, we should expect some pretty big departures for certain events from the original game.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will be releasing as a PS5 exclusive initially. Much like Final Fantasy 15, VII Remake and Final Fantasy 16, it will likely release on PC a year to 18 months after the initial launch.

KitGuru Says: Square Enix might have back-to-back mainline Final Fantasy games over the next year, which would certainly be a feat.
