Steam set a new peak concurrent user record over the weekend

Valve broke new records for Steam concurrent users over the course of the pandemic and this year, Steam has grown once again. Just last month, Steam set a new record for concurrent users, with over 30 million people signed onto the platform at once. Now, that record has been broken once again.

On the 26th of November, Steam set a new concurrent user record, with almost 32 million people online at once across the globe. Of those 32 million people online, around nine million were in a game. Interestingly, this record has come following a wave of good press for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and the more recently launched Warzone 2.0, marking the first time Warzone has been available on Steam, and the first time a new Call of Duty has launched on Steam since 2019.

Steam peaked at 20 million concurrent users in 2020, so the platform has grown considerably in the last two years alone. At this point, major publishers that had left the platform, like EA, Activision and Ubisoft, have all returned. EA has been back on Steam for a couple of years now, and Activision has now returned with this year's Call of Duty. Ubisoft will be back on Steam starting in December with the release of Assassin's Creed Valhalla.

Currently, the top five most-played games on Steam include CS:GO, Dota 2, Lost Ark, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 and PUBG. Coming in just behind those games you'll find Apex Legends and Grand Theft Auto V, both of which regularly appear in the top ten.

KitGuru says: Steam has been the biggest PC gaming platform for over a decade but Valve is still finding room for growth. It is also worth noting that the Steam Autumn Sale recently went live, so it is likely that more people logged in to check out the deals.
