Take-Two in talks to acquire Codemasters

Codemasters has remained independent for a long time now but that could be changing soon. This week, it emerged that Take-Two is in talks to acquire the studio for just shy of $1 billion.

Codemasters informed investors of the acquisition talks this week. The studio has also confirmed that it has received an offer to acquire the company for £4.85 per share. Assuming that deal sticks, Codemasters will be acquired for £739 million, which works out to $973 million USD.

This would be a premium over Codemasters' current stock price, which values the company at £662.98 million. As reported by GI.biz, the deal is conditional on Take-Two completing its due diligence and the approval of Codemasters' board of directors.

Discussions are still on-going but the acquisition should be made official within the next few weeks.

KitGuru Says: Take-Two could do with a racing game specialist under its wing, so this acquisition would make perfect sense. In the meantime, Codemasters is preparing to ship Dirt 5 across PC, current-gen and next-gen consoles.
