The Witcher 3 Remastered launches to very positive reviews

The Witcher 3 is making headlines once again this week. 11 years on from the game's original release, CD Projekt Red has rolled out a free remaster, overhauling much of the game. So far, the remaster appears to be extremely well received, with The Witcher 3 earning the top spot as the highest-rated game of 2026 so far. 

The Witcher 3 Remastered is officially available across PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S and Switch 2 today. Over on Metacritic, the game has the highest overall score of all games released so far in 2026, with a 94 overall score. The situation is similar over on OpenCritic, but what about user reviews?

Over on Steam, the user review score is sitting at 92%, giving it a ‘Very Positive' rating based on over 6,000 recent reviews. As The Witcher 3 Remastered has taken over the original game's Steam Store page, reviews of the original game prior to the remaster date are also counted here, which is why we went with the ‘recent reviews' figure, rather than the total reviews figure. Overall, The Witcher 3 has an ‘Overwhelmingly Positive' rating based on all-time Steam user reviews.

The Witcher 3 Remastered makes a lot of changes. The update is free to anyone who previously owned the base game, which means those who didn't buy the expansions previously will now have them for free. The remaster doesn't just update visuals, but it also includes fresh animations, reworked traversal mechanics, an overhauled skill tree and much more.
