The World Ends With You is finally getting a sequel next year

After originally releasing on the Nintendo DS back in 2007,  The World Ends With You received a second wind in 2018 thanks to its revival on the Nintendo Switch. It would seem that the Switch release reignited enough interest in the series to warrant a sequel too.

Today, Square Enix announced NEO: The World Ends With You, an official sequel to the original 2007 RPG. Like the original game, the sequel will take place in Shibuya, Tokyo:

Since this game takes place in Shibuya, it does have some resemblance to Persona 5, which also heavily features the Shibuya district of Tokyo.

In NEO: The World Ends With You, players will take on the role of Rindo, as you try to survive in the Reapers' Game. A new cast of characters will join you along the way. The game is expected to release in Summer 2021 for the Nintendo Switch and PS4.
