Ubisoft now wants to make ‘first GenAI game’

Ubisoft has often jumped at the chance to embrace new technology, to varying degrees of success. Many of you will remember the Ghost Recon NFT saga from a few years back. Now that ‘blockchain gaming' hasn't really taken off, Ubisoft has shifted its efforts towards Generative AI.

Ubisoft has confirmed this week that it is investing in Generative AI, in hopes of making the “first playable Generative AI experience”. The game, which is already in the works, is named “teammates” according to Ubisoft's earnings report.

Here is the full quote (via VGC): “Ubisoft is accelerating investments behind Teammates, its first playable Generative AI experience, to enrich player experiences, while teams are making tangible progress organically on AI applications that can help manage the growing complexity of modern game development pipelines. This ranges from more intelligent bots supporting our QC teams, to smarter NPCs and game worlds that can adapt to player behavior and react more dynamically in real time.”

In a now deleted tweet, Tom Henderson has also reported that Ubisoft is experimenting with Generative AI in one of its more popular IP – Far Cry. With that said, Far Cry 7 is not expected to ship with any GenAI features in place, so this appears to be a purely experimental effort, while Teammates is an actual game built entirely around the technology.

KitGuru Says: I'm sure this will turn out to be a fantastic PR move for Ubisoft…
