Unreal Engine 6 is still a long way off from release

A few weeks ago, Epic Games quietly announced that Unreal Engine 6 was on the way, with plans to debut with a major Rocket League update. Now, Epic has made its plans for the new Unreal Engine clear, planning an early access period for developers, which will last up to 18 months.

According to Epic Games, Unreal Engine 6 will become available in ‘early access' starting in late 2027. The full release version of the engine will then arrive “12-18 months later”.

Unreal Engine 6 is built on top of UE5, combining features from later UE5 revisions, along with elements of Epic's own Unreal Editor for Fortnite, into one software platform.

Considering the lengthy timeline for early access, as well as how long it takes to develop new AAA games from scratch, we won't see the first UE6 titles until 2030.

KitGuru Says: For now, all of this news is very developer-centric. Gamers won't have to worry about Unreal Engine 6 for a few more years at least.
