Xbox 360 JRPG classic Blue Dragon gets unofficial PC port

We’ve seen a wave of unofficial PC ports for older console exclusives recently. Gears of War 2 was recompiled for PC earlier this month, giving fans a way to play the game natively for the first time. Now, another Xbox 360 favourite has joined the list, with one fan creating an unofficial PC port of Blue Dragon.

Blue Dragon was one of the standout JRPGs of the Xbox 360 era, developed by Mistwalker and fronted by Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi. Despite its cult following, the game never made the jump to PC or other platforms. Thanks to this new fan project, players can now run the game on modern hardware with unlocked frame rates and resolutions.

The port allows Blue Dragon to run at 4K and 60FPS, giving the game a huge visual boost compared to the original 360 release. Due to its anime‑inspired art style, the game scales cleanly to higher resolutions without the odd artefacts you sometimes see when older, more realistic titles are pushed beyond their intended limits.

This is part of a broader trend of fans bringing older Xbox exclusives to PC through recompilation or custom ports. With that said, Blue Dragon is also likely to be officially supported on PC soon anyway, as Microsoft has rolled out Xbox Backwards Compatibility to PCs, with Xbox 360 titles to gain support in the future. Blue Dragon is already one of the top-played backwards compatible games on Xbox One / Xbox Series X.

KitGuru Says: Blue Dragon was a big deal for JRPG fans back in the Xbox 360 days, so seeing it running smoothly on PC is a nice surprise. Hopefully more forgotten exclusives get the same treatment.
