75% of all PS5 owners prefer Performance Mode according to PlayStation

Following years of leaks and rumours, Sony’s PlayStation 5 Pro was finally officially revealed during a presentation hosted by the lead system architect Mark Cerny. Alongside the details of the console itself, Cerny revealed that current PS5 owners are much more likely to use a performance mode over the fidelity option if given the choice.

As stated by Mark Cerny during the PS5 Pro reveal, the console architect offered some numbers on how the current PS5 is being used.

According to Cerny, while 25% of PS5 owners have a 120 fps-capable TV (with 10% owning VRR displays), a vast majority of PS5 players will choose a game’s performance mode if available – with 75% of all users opting for higher framerates at the cost of visual quality.

While an interesting stat, this revelation was of course announced with the intention of pointing out the merits of the PS5 Pro – offering no compromise between both graphics and framerate.

That said, for Sony’s first-party games, pretty much all of them look excellent no matter which visual mode you choose, and so it will be interesting to see whether those who do prefer smoother framerates will find enough in the Pro to upgrade.
